TIMELINE
The Mystery quilt is different from other Blocks of the Month because each quilt is custom die cut to order. This means that we have to place our order for the fabric and do the cutting well ahead of the start date, and we have to take deposits before we can start your quilt.
We are delighted to announce that we are once again cutting your quilts here in New Zealand. Our elves will be very busy!!
December 1st to 31st January: Registration and Payment of deposit or payment in full.
January: Cutting and packing of Clue 1 begins.
1st February: 2nd payment.
13th February: Clue 1 despatch.
1st October 2026: 10th and final payment.
6th November 2026: We ship Clue 10.
7th November 2026: BIG REVEAL
WHAT IS THE MYSTERY QUILT?
If you haven't taken part in the Mystery before you are in for a treat! You choose the size and fabrics you want from our beautiful selection of brand new designer prints, and everything is ready cut for you to the perfect size using die cutters.
Each month for ten months you receive a fabric pack and instructions for how to sew the pieces together. No cutting, just sit down and sew!
In the tenth month is the Big Reveal, where you get to see the finished quilt and join your clues together to make a beautiful quilt top.
We also provide you with matching binding fabric.
The Mystery Quilt has been running since 2013 and Sheila's designs are so popular that her Mystery Quilts are now sold to thousands of quilters around the world, from Greenland to Brazil.
FINISHED QUILT SIZES
These are generous sizes - if in doubt measure your mattress and allow for your desired overhang.
Twin 58" x 70" - a perfect size for a single mattress.
Queen 88" x 88" - not just a mattress topper, it allows for overhang at the sides and bottom of the bed.
OPTIONS
OOPS KITS
Did the dog eat your triangle? Or are you missing a part and really want to get the block finished rather than wait for us to send you a replacement? Never fear, we will be offering 'Oops Kits' this year.
Any fabric you don't need could be used to add a flourish to your border, create a mini project to go with your quilt, or add some extra interest to your backing - the choice is up to you.
Oops Kits must be ordered at the same time as your quilt.
EXTRA FABRIC
Availability of extra fabric may be limited - but if you don't ask you don't get, right? If you wish to make your quilt larger than the standard size, let us know in a note with your order and we will do our best to get you the extra.
HOW TO ORDER
Locals - you can come in to view the fabrics and sign up now online or at Evans of Masterton!
Ordering will also be available on our website.
You will be able to pay in full or set up monthly payments when you place your order on that date.
We send your ready-cut pieces with instructions each month starting inFebruary 2026.
Payment Dates if paying monthly:

Payment 4: 1st April

Payment 7: 1st July

All payments must be up to date before we despatch each pack.
You can set up your monthly payments by credit card or by bank transfer.
The Big Reveal is on 7th November 2026 - we will send out the final packs that include your borders, binding and finishing instructions on Friday November 6th.
