TIMELINE

 The Mystery quilt is different from other Blocks of the Month because each quilt is custom die cut to order. This means that we have to place our order for the fabric and cutting well ahead of the start date, and we have to take deposits before we can order your quilt.

These pieces are then shipped to us from the USA, and have to go through NZ customs. This can take a while and cause delays. We expect that our packs should arrive at least in time for Clue 2 at the end of August, in which case we will ship both clues together. However there may be delays that are beyond our control. We are working closely with our supplier to improve this process and make it run as smoothly as possible.

May 24th - 28th: Registration and Payment of deposit or payment in full.

June: Order placed with suppliers, cutting begins.

July: Cutting completion. Packing and despatch from USA.

24th July: 2nd payment. Final date for payment of balance if paying in full. 

August: Delivery to NZ expected subject to shipping and customs delays.  

24th August: 3rd payment.

We ship Clues 1 and 2 when they arrive. If paid in full we ship all fabric to you at once and email the clues each month.

Last Friday in September: 4th payment. We ship Clue 3.

If packages are late arriving we will ship clues 1-3.

Last Friday in October: 5th payment. We ship Clue 4.

Last Friday in November: 6th payment. We ship Clue 5.

Last Friday before Christmas:  We ship Clue 6.

Last Friday in December: 7th payment. 

Last Friday in January: 8th payment. We ship Clue 7.

Last Friday in February: 9th payment. We ship Clue 8.

Last Friday in March: 10th payment. We ship Clue 9.

Last Friday in April:  We ship Clue 10. 

April 26th 2025: BIG REVEAL

Following the Big Reveal we will be receiving your final outer borders from the US. These will be shipped as soon as we receive them.

 

COLOURWAYS

What's your go-to colour personality? Do you love brights, autumn shades, cool neutrals, florals, orientals, batiks, traditional, or something edgy and modern? We have it all for you here. Maybe you're looking to make a quilt for a loved one, you want to sew colours that make you happy, or you want to step outside your comfort zone and try something new without having loads of leftover fabrics. Whatever you are looking for, loads to choose from in our selection below.

  

WHAT IS THE MYSTERY QUILT?

If you haven't taken part in the Quilters' Lane Mystery before you are in for a treat! You choose the size and fabrics you want from our beautiful selection of brand new designer prints, and everything is ready cut for you to the perfect size using die cutters.

Each month for ten months you receive a fabric pack and instructions for how to sew the pieces together. No cutting, just sit down and sew!

In the tenth month is the Big Reveal, where you get to see the finished quilt and join your clues together to make a beautiful quilt top.
We also provide you with matching binding fabric.

The Mystery Quilt has been running since 2013 and Sheila's designs are so popular that her Mystery Quilts are now sold to thousands of quilters around the world, from Greenland to Brazil.

 FINISHED QUILT SIZES
These are generous sizes - if in doubt measure your mattress and allow for your desired overhang.

Twin 58" x 70" - a perfect size for a single mattress. 
Queen 88" x  88" - not just a mattress topper, it allows for overhang at the sides and bottom of the bed. 

 

OPTIONS

OOPS KITS

Did the dog eat your triangle? Or are you missing a part and really want to get the block finished rather than wait for us to send you a replacement? Never fear, we will be offering 'Oops Kits' this year. 

Any fabric you don't need could be used to add a flourish to your border, create a mini project to go with your quilt, or add some extra interest to your backing - the choice is up to you.

Oops Kits must be ordered at the same time as your quilt. 

EXTRA FABRIC

Availability of extra fabric may be limited - but if you don't ask you don't get, right? If you wish to make your quilt larger than the standard size, let us know in a note with your order and we will do our best to get you the extra. We can order this fabric about 4-5 months after the Mystery starts.

HOW TO ORDER

Ordering will be on our website from MAY 24h. You will be able to pay in full or set up monthly payments when you place your order on that date.

We send your ready-cut pieces with instructions each month starting as soon as they arrive.

After May 29th some colourways may have sold out. We will try to keep availability up to date on the website, but this is not guaranteed. If you order a colourway that we cannot get we will offer you a full refund or an alternative colourway.

*The official start date is July 26th 2024. For the current Mystery, Tree of Life, our packs arrived about a month late and we sent the first two out together. Some packs arrived later. We are working hard to get the delivery earlier, but we may be subject to delays beyond our control.

All payments must be up to date before we despatch each pack.

You can set up your monthly payments by credit card or by Poli (bank transfer).

The Big Reveal is on April 26th 2025 - this is when we will send out the final packs that include your borders, binding and finishing instructions.
